Clinch Mountain is actually part of a larger ridgeline. This ridge runs along the Appalachian Mountains through portions of both Tennessee and Virginia. Although technically a ridge, this is some very mountainous terrain. Do you have any idea of where the name comes from? This area was named after a river which runs along throughout the region. You will be able to see the river from many parts of this ride.

The overlook near the top of Clinch Mountain is an awe-inspiring view. Looking down on the beautiful lakes is a vision that you must see to truly appreciate. The clear waters lay beneath you for portions of this ride. Be sure to watch that upcoming curve as you try to gaze down along the beautiful water-filled landscape!

Some great curves and hills await you while exploring Clinch Mountain on your two wheels. Ride along the curves and hills on about 150 miles of ridge that make up the complex known as Clinch Mountain. Be prepared for changes in temperature as you near the top. It can get a little cool up here even in the summer months. This is not a ride recommended for the winter months unless you have the right gear.

The route you choose for this ride really depends on where you want to start and end. There are several ways to get to Clinch Mountain. Heading out from the Knoxille area, a good route is to take Highway 131 eastbound. This will take you almost all of the way to Clinch Mountain. It runs right into Highway 25E where you take a right to ride toward the Overlook. There are several routes to get back - any one you choose will be a great one.

Route

One of the main highways you will want to ride as part of your route is Highway 25E. Highway 25E cuts right through the middle of Clinch Mountain. This is a very well maintained, four lane highway where you can enjoy wide sweeping curves and great views. It runs essentially north and south, but meanders throughout the Ridge, making it a really good ride.

There is a little restaurant at the top of the overlook that makes a great place to stop for a bite to eat. The Clinch Mountain Overlook has very reasonable prices and really good food. One of the unique highlights is the Vinegar pie. It is actually made from Vinegar, but tastes just like Lemon Pie. You really should try it when you head out to ride Clinch Mountain.

There is also a small Winery nearby. The Clinch Mountain winery is just off of Highway 25E a little north of the restaurant and overlook. It looks very much like an old barn. The wine is not that good, but it is still a cool little place to stop and check out when out riding Clinch Mountain.
