Hogfest

Hogfest was held over Memorial Day weekend. The three day weekend gives a biker time to really relax - especially if they have
ridden awhile to get to Pelham, Tennessee.

The weather was mostly good once we arrived at Hogfest. We did have the unfortunate luck to ride into hard rain mixed with hail on the way to Hogfest. It was not too hot while camping there. There were a couple of times that it looked like Hogfest was going to get some rain, but we managed to stay dry. The ride back home turned out to be quite wet, though. It rained nearly all of the way back from Hogfest.

The showers were still pretty much the same. One had been added to the far end, so it was not hard to get an open shower. The saturday morning shower was a little cool, but it warmed up nicely later in the day.

Most of the bands were really good. There were a couple during the day on saturday that played harder edge rock. Some folks don't really care for the 'headbanging' type of music at a motorcycle rally.

Some of the attendees were handing out beads. If you’re not familiar with the significance of beads, read on. At some motorcycle rallies, Hogfest included, some men will offer beads to women that ride or walk by their campsite. In order to earn these beads, the woman must show her breasts. It is amazing how many will do this - and it's all in fun.

The Sow Sucking contest was held at around 6PM Friday evening. Several people missed the event. This event should be held either later in the evening on Friday, or sometime during the day on Saturday.

The ride down to Hogfest was mostly interstate this time. It would have been to dark to set up the tent otherwise. I had planned to ride over to Rock Island fall state park again this year, but was having too much fun to leave Hogfest.

We did have a little trouble with flies in the porta potties at Hogfest this year. It was warm enough that they were extremely attracted to them. Someone noticed sometime Saturday and installed fly strips which helped quite a bit.

The motorcycle games were moved to the field behind the stage at Hogfest this year. The word I heard was that there was concern that the field in front of the stage would get tore up if the games were held there. There didn't seem to be a problem with that last fall. The turnout for the Motorcycle games was very low due to the new location. Many folks didn't know where they were being held, so thought there were no games.

One of the things that is really impressive about Hogfest is how well organized it is. RVs and campers must all setup near the middle of the field, which leaves plenty of room for the tent campers along the treelines. This organization makes it much easier to ride your motorcycle around the campgrounds to visit you riding partners.
