Norris Lake
Norris Lake - a nice ride around a beautiful lake - several activities in addition to the ride.
Norris Lake is another nice ride in East Tennessee. Norris Lake offers a great ride for a good afternoon of Motorcycle riding. The scenery is fantastic on this ride. The ride is mostly nice, easy curves and hills. There are no hard switchbacks or steep inclines. There is no need to be concerned about gravel or potholes while riding around Norris Lake. The roads are well maintained. The roads are plenty wide, and make for an enjoyable ride.
Be sure to check out the Dam. The ride around Norris Lake takes you right over Norris Dam. It was one of the earlier ones build by the Tennessee Valley Authority to manage the waterways in the valley. The Dam actually created Norris Lake.
The rides around Norris Lake actually take you through both Anderson and Campbell counties. Riding along Highway 441, you will see the Anderson county sign welcoming you more than once as you curve in and out of it. There is no shortage of riding here. Norris Lake covers parts of Anderson, Union, Grainger, Campbell, and Caliborne counties. You can even continue along the Clinch River toward Melton Hill for more scenery on a great ride.
This lake is not small. Norris Lake is the largest reservoir along a tributary of the Tennessee River. The roads will show you a part of it, but see the massiveness of it, some hiking might be involved.
The Clinch River runs through this part of the valley. You will ride along parts of the Clinch River on your ride around Norris Lake. The clinch runs about 300 miles in length and is an extremely calm river. It actually ends up near Kingston Tennessee.
One route you can ride is from Lake City. Just jump on Highway 441 heading eastbound, and before you know it, you will be inside of the park. Following Highway 441 around Norris Lake will take you directly over the dam. On your right, the drop from the wall of the Dam is a really long way down. Continue along Highway 441 and you will reach Highway 61. You can go on straight toward Knoxville, or hang a right to go toward Melton Lake.
If you want to go the northern route, just catch Highway 61 from Interstate 75, and turn left on highway 441 which will take you around Norris Lake going the opposite direction. If you continue into Lake City, turn right on Highway 25W - which is also Highway 116. Cross back under the Interstate for a nice ride northbound to Cove Lake.
Norris Lake is a popular place for tourists. There is swimming, fishing and boating activities going on all of the time.
