The Rattler
The Rattler is one
Motorcycle ride you don't want to miss out on! If you are ever in the
Hot Springs North Carolina area, you don't want to miss the opportunity
to ride The Rattler.
Depending on who you listen to, there are 290 curves in about 24 miles
on The Rattler. Some say there are 234 curves along highway 209 (The
Rattler) between Lake Junaluska North Carolina and Hot Springs. Guess
you'll just have to ride it yourself and try to keep count! Although it
bears a few similarities to the famed "Dragon" - The Rattler is very
different. The dragon claims 318 curves in only 11 miles. It's highly
technical, and very popular. There have been some deaths on this ride,
so be cautious if you plan to take this on.

Even though The Rattler is just over 30 miles, it will likely take you
close to an hour to ride this curvy and challenging stretch of highway.
Be prepared for a challenging, but beautiful Motorcycle Ride. If you
are riding from a distance, you may want a place to crash. Fortunately,
there are several options not too far from The Rattler. Just grab a
hotel, bed & breakfast, Lodge, or even a campground.
From challenging twisties, to valley views, The Rattler - highway 209
has a little bit of everything. You can choose to take it easy, or
really get into it - it's really your choice. There could be places
with a little gravel - especially in the tight
switchbacks. Keep your eyes open and be prepared to avoid this
additional challenge. With rock 'wall' on your side in several of
curves along The Rattler, there is a possibility of some falling to the
road.
There are several places to grab a bite in Hot Springs itself. And if
you have time, you might want to stop by the mineral baths right there
in town for a bit of relaxation before or after you ride The
Rattler. Enjoy the ride!
